Bermuda… from 185 Steps Up

This is a shot from the Gibbs Point Lighthouse which stands 117 feet tall and is located in the Southampton Parish section of the Island. It’s the oldest cast iron Lighthouse in the world (built in 1846).

Lighthouses seem to be a running theme in my landscape photography journeys- Battery Point in Crescent City, CA; Bodie & Hatteras in the Outerbanks, and now Gibbs Point. Beginning to think they follow me from place to place.

You have to climb 185 stairs to get t the top. I do get vertigo at these heights so I usually have to have an ‘inner voice’ conversation with myself about getting a great shot to make the climb and height worthwhile. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn’t. In this case it did. Just a great perspective of the Island from the air.
