Vapor Plume

Shot the annual Jones Beach Air Show on Long Island’s south shore today. Sky was really stinky white/grey for most of the morning but by the time the Blue Angels flew, most of the “left side” of me was blue which made for some good shooting. I wish I had a better sky for this shot of a canadian F-18A making a high speed pass right along the beach. The force of the acceleration forces the water in the air to “vaporize” around the contour of the airframe for a moment, then it disappears.  I have for years tried to get that moment of peak “vapor plume” and have failed came much closer today, but can still do better… :-) (as always)

Love the Blue Angels… will have more to post in coming days!

Enjoy!
