Using Your Eye…

This is one of those spontaneous shots that I just loved when I saw it in post.

We went pumpkin picking this past weekend at a farmstand in Setauket and they had this haystack-slide-contraption set up with a big-black-tube “thingie” running through the middle of it.

Boys played and jumped, ran and slid, and hide inside the black-tubie-”thingie.” Didn’t think much of it until I peered inside and saw them sitting and chatting with one another. The backlit sun pouring through the other end created this sunburst affect along the inside of the tube… the light was just perfect for a quick portrait shot.

Mind you, this was taken with a point-and-shoot (a Nikon P7000). So nothing fancy about the camera itself. The environment and the boys provided the drama. A few clicks in Lightroom finished the image you see (increase blacks, moved the clarity around a bit, and converted to black and white using a preset I downloaded from the web), once again proving that you never know when you might be able to create a memorable image.

Enjoy!
